Finger-Lickin' Good

Looking for something to do with your child that is quick, easy, and frugal? Not to mention delicious? Make your own freezer jam! Yum-O!

Lane and I decided to forego the long method and opted for the easy version of making our own strawberry jam.

First, you need strawberries, sugar, fruit pectin (we used Sure-Jell), and lots of containers...oh, and a handsome assistant.

Check.

Next, rinse and slice the strawberries and have your handsome assistant put them into the blender.

When you realize that the blender is not working, pull out your food processor instead.
Have your handsome assistant pose for a picture.

Puree to your heart's content. Observe pureeing within a few inches distance.

Be sure to eat some strawberries along the way.

...and giggle about being caught eating them.

Once you have enough crushed strawberries (we used 4 cups), mix with an exorbitant amount of sugar (8 cups!) and stir.

Prepare the pectin by boiling it with the appropriate amount of water for the appropriate amount of time (not pictured...I didn't trust handsome assistant with the boiling OR the DSLR).

Mix pectin with the strawberry/sugar mixture and stir for 3 minutes.

Pour your yummy jam into your containers and take a picture of your final product. Be proud.

Throw all sticky matter into the sink and put off washing until later, after your tummy settles from eating all of the yummy, gooey, sugary jam while you were making it.

Enjoy!
